Yonger & Bresson launches three men’s watch collections inspired by famous French figures

October 2006

Yonger & Bresson, one of the brands of Montres Ambre S.A., France, was founded in 1975 and manufactures its timepieces in the city of Morteau, France, 10 km from the Swiss border. The company combines Ambre’s talents, crafting distinctive watches with classical European design. This year sees the launch of three new classical collections of mechanical watches for Ambre in 2006. Each of the collections: Diderot, Rousseau and Flaubert are inspired by famous French figures.

Diderot: reflecting the character not simply following the times

The inspiration comes from Denis Diderot (October 5, 1713 - July 31, 1784) who was a French philosopher and writer as well as a prominent figure in what became known as the Enlightenment. He was also the Editor-in-Chief of the famous ‘Encyclopédie’. Diderot contributed to literature, notably with his work ‘Jacques le fataliste et son maître’. As an aggressive thinker, he challenged conventions regarding novels and their structure and content, while also examining philosophical ideas relating to free will. With the distinctive character, the Diderot Collection reveals the philosophy of its brand that is not simply following the times.

Rousseau: featuring independence and initiative

Inspired from Jean-Jacques Rousseau (June 28, 1712 - July 2, 1778), a Geneva-born philosopher of the Enlightenment whose political ideas influenced the French Revolution, the development of socialist theory, and the growth of nationalism. Infusing the new thought of independence and initiative, Rousseau’s novel ‘Julie, ou la nouvelle Héloïse’ was one of the best-selling fictional works in the eighteen century. He also made important contributions to music both as a theorist and a composer. Named after this versatile personage, the Rousseau Collection will be for those who love independence, freedom and self-expression.

Flaubert: chasing the detailed and refined perfection

Gustave Flaubert (December 12, 1821 – May 8, 1880) was a French novelist who is counted among the greatest Western novelists. He is known especially for his first published novel ‘Madam Bovary’ and for his scrupulous devotion to his art and style. It is one of the reasons that his novels become page-turners for the readers. The details, concentration to finesse and dedication to refinement reveal the seduction of the new Flaubert Collection.
