Highlights from Hermle Clocks

March 2007

The company Franz Hermle & Sohn GmbH & Co. KG has been manufacturing clocks and clock movements since 1922. Two years ago after a complete reorganisation, the company was divided in two parts: “Hermle Mechanische Uhrwerke und Drehteile GmbH” located in Reichenbach and “Hermle Uhrenmanufaktur GmbH” located in Gosheim.

In Reichenbach the company manufactures turned parts and mechanical movements, in Gosheim, it distributes mechanical movements and quartz chiming movements and complete clocks. The clock line has about 300 models from Grandfather clocks to 400-day-clocks. The Hermle Uhrenmanufaktur is also manufacturing dials, bezels, pendulums and weight shells which where manufactured in the past through the former Jäckle company, which has since been taken over by Hermle.

Most of the parts are used for the company’s own production, however there are also international customers who buy movements, dials and pendulums for their own clock production. These OEM customers are located worldwide from Japan to USA. Hermle provides timeless classics to latest contemporary designed pieces at reasonable prices with the ‘Made in Germany’ label.
Our highly trained technical and administrative supports stuff ensures that these principals are maintained and assured.

Tellurium

One of their highlights is the Tellurium in cherry wood, a timepiece for connoisseurs who admire the fine art of mechanical clock making. The transparency of the case with its curved, bevelled glass panels and its hand-made glass dome allows a view of the Hermle four-bell Westminster chime movement 352 with polished plates, night shut off and the tellurium at the centre of the dome. The Tellurium clock reproduces the annual orbit of the earth around the sun, with the earth rotating around its own axis once every twenty-four hours. The moon, in turn, revolves around the earth in 29,5 days completing a full rotation around its axis. This allows the reproduction of the different moon phases as they are visible from earth. In the course of one year, the earth passes all twelve zodiac signs, months and individual days which are indicated on the brass disc.
