Burglary at the Girard-Perregaux Museum

July 2007

A burglary with assault was committed at the watch museum of Girard-Perregaux in the Chaux-de-Fond yesterday. The total amount of the loss has yet to be determined, but has been estimated to be extensive. The county police and the legal authorities immediately opened an enquiry into the incident, but for security reasons no further information can be given at this time.

The person who was attacked was unharmed but transferred to hospital for observation. After the burglars left, the museum employee was able to raise the alarm.

Constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, the Villa Marguerite has been the home of the Girard-Perregaux Museum since 1999. More than a 100 timepieces, both antique and contemporary, illustrate the history of watchmaking in general, but most importantly that of Girard-Perregaux, displaying the savoir-faire of the brand. This patrimony, which was painstakingly put together over many years has allowed visitors to admire complicated timepieces such as the famous tourbillon with three gold bridges as well as delicate creations of jewellery watches.
