Raymond Weil supports Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and young music talents

July 2007

Geneva watchmaker Raymond Weil and British soul singer Lemar join together to support Nordoff – Robbins Music Therapy, the largest music therapy charity in the United Kingdom.

London - A glittering array of celebrities and figureheads from the music industry recently attended a lunch in London’s Hilton on Park Lane in aid of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy. This star-studded event was the highlight of the fundraising calendar 2007. On this occasion, a unique jewellery watch, specially designed by the Swiss family owned watchmaker, Raymond Weil, for British soul sensation Lemar, was auctioned, with all proceeds fully donated to the charity. Adjudication price £35,000.

Established in 1974, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy is based on the belief that music provides a universal language to which everyone responds, no matter how ill or disabled. The charity is entirely funded by voluntary donations which are essential in order to help up to 400 children and adults through music therapy every week.

This was a great occasion for Pierre Bernheim - Areas Sales Director and RW Club Director - present at the Silver Clef Lunch, to remind that “Raymond Weil, active patron in the world of art and culture since its creation and very involved in the support of young musicians, is a loyal supporter of Nordoff-Robbins and has sponsored the International Music Award since 2002.”
Raymond Weil has already designed one-off timepieces for distinguished musicians Craig David and Jay Kay who raised a total of £84,000 from auctioning their jewellery watches.

Lemar – A British Soul Sensation

With his deeply soulful voice and rare talent, Lemar was the obvious choice for collaboration on this year’s exciting project. This soul man has the voice, the moves and a heart of gold.

Lemar Obika was born on April 4, 1978 in the multiracial Tottenham neighbourhood, located in the London borough of Haringey. Imbued with the passion to sing since he was a little child, he chose the singing career path instead of pursuing his Cardiff University acceptance to study pharmacy as his parents had wished. Obviously, this was the right decision: Winner of two BRIT Awards and 3 MOBOS, Lemar is enjoying a huge success with his latest album “The truth about love” and is currently preparing for his forthcoming UK Tour.

When Raymond Weil told him about this unique project, he immediately expressed great interest and had an intuitive vision of how he wanted the watch to look like. Concerning Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, he says. “I’m really interested in how they use music to help children to refocus and make progress in life. Obviously, I can relate to that and can talk to children who might need a kind of role model”

The famous soul singer was involved in the creative process throughout the conceptual stages of design, working closely with the Raymond Weil team.

This unique timekeeper, jewellery watch among Raymond Weil’s creations and the result of a successful collaboration between Raymond Weil’s watch designers and Lemar, shows an 18 carat, pink gold rectangular case set with 320 yellow diamonds and a black mother of pearl dial, emblazoned with diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and a ruby. The chronograph is set with a sparkling total of 671 diamonds and precious stones making it a timepiece that really stands out from the crowd.
