Patek Philippe celebrates the ten-year anniversary of its Aquanaut collection

July 2007

Introducing two new men’s models with subtly reworked design features and two seductive new colors in the Aquanaut Luce ladies’ line, Patek Philippe celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Aquanaut collection, its endearing interpretation of casual elegance. This youthful, striking, and dynamic watch collection is poised for continued success.

Superb sports appeal

Patek Philippe is world renowned for it’s design and executions of complicated timepieces.
Moreover, the Geneva workshops also earned a unique reputation in the domain of contemporary watches by launching two lines that soon gained cult status. In 2006, the Nautilus turned thirty with an expanded and restyled collection. The Aquanaut was already a sensation when it had its debut in 1997 as a statement of casual elegance with a surprisingly progressive design.

Its softly rounded octagonal case illustrated its kinship with the Nautilus. The black dial and strap featured an exclusive reliefed pattern. It featured a “Tropical” strap, an extremely durable and water-resistant composite. With its stainless steel case, rare for a Patek Philippe, the Aquanaut projected its sports appeal but was endowed with all of the indispensable classic assets of a timepiece from the manufacturer in Geneva: precision, dependability, and superior craftsmanship. The innovative watch was available in three sizes and instantly captivated a youthful following of active and demanding individuals whose lifestyle was at once sophisticated and nonchalant. Indeed, the Aquanaut inspired an entire new generation to enter the prestigious culture of Patek Philippe. In 2004, the collection was enriched with a decidedly feminine model, the Aquanaut Luce. A watch for bold women with strong personalities and a flair for elegance, it featured a diamond-studded stainless steel case with matching dials and straps in dynamic colors.

Aquanaut for men:
A new look with even more confidence

To mark the tenth anniversary of the Aquanaut collection, Patek Philippe subtly retouched the design of the basic model and introduced several technical and aesthetic refinements. The iconic octagonal case, inspired by a marine porthole, remains unchanged and is underscored by the satin finish of the bezel. The charcoal dial has a new structure with gently curved, embossed grooves that blend perfectly with the design of the watch.

These innovative designs give the Aquanaut an even more dynamic, technical, and masculine look. The structure of the strap was also refined and with its flat sides emphasizes the sports appeal of the watch. The contour of the strap between the lugs is matched precisely with the curvature of the case, forming a visually seamless transition. To optimize the comfort factor, Patek Philippe redesigned the inside of the strap and its taper for a
countored fit on the wrist.

Additionally, the workshops developed a new double-security fold-over clasp exclusively for the launch of the Aquanaut collection. The Aquanaut grande taille is available in “Extra large” and “Large” sizes. The case diameter of the stately “XL” model Ref. 5167 is 40 mm.
The case of the “Large” model (Ref. 5165) is 38 mm, the same as its largest predecessor. These two men’s timepieces replace the previous generation which came in three sizes (Refs. 5064, 5065, and 5066). Technically, the new Aquanaut models possess the same quality and reliability features that made the collection such a success from the very beginning: screw-down crown, water resistance to 120 meters, luminous hands and hour markers. The composite “Tropical” strap is extraordinarily resistant to wear, salt water, and UV radiation. Both new self-winding models are powered by a caliber 315 S C manufacture movement and have been crafted to the benchmark quality standards upheld by Patek Philippe. The movement can be admired through the sapphirecrystal caseback.

Aquanaut Luce:
Two new fashionable colors

On its dials and straps, the Aquanaut Luce collection continues the tradition of the original relief pattern, which more than ever represents the ultimate Patek Philippe timepiece family for the casual elegant woman. Once again, the palette is reinvigorated, as it was in 2006, with two new exciting colors for the matching dials and straps: The delicate Ice Blue and sophisticated Metal Gray. These two timeless nuances interact beautifully with the sheen of the polished steel case and the elegance of the 46 flawless Top Wesselton diamonds on the bezel. The new colors are fresh and innovative colors that radiate feminine elegance in any season. Aquanaut Luce watches are also available in Mysterious Black, Pure White, and Purple. Black and White are the exclusive colors of the smaller models. The composite “Tropical” strap, hard-wearing, water-resistant, and luxuriously comfortable, incorporates a convenient stainless steel fold-over clasp. The case is water-resistant up to 120 m and features a screw-down crown. For ladies who wish to combine casual elegance with the attributes of Haute Horlogerie and Haute Joaillerie, the Aquanaut Luce also comes in an 18K whitegold case with pave set diamonds. The Aquanaut heart is a self-winding mechanical caliber 330 S C movement.

Patek Philippe has complemented the Aquanaut Luce collection with a white-gold ring that emulates the embossed pattern of the dial and strap. The exquisite and delicate piece, in diamond-set or pavé versions, comes with five interchangeable composite inserts from the 2007 Aquanaut Luce color palette.
