Jaeger-LeCoultre and La Biennale

September 2007

2007 marks the third year of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s partnership with la Biennale di Venezia on the occasion of its 64th international film festival, known by aficionados as ‘La Mostra’ and recognised as one of the most prestigious in the world.

In fact, the first edition of La Mostra was held 75 years ago and since the beginning it has distinguished itself for its independent spirit, innovation, respect for tradition and quest for artistic quality – values dear to Jaeger-LeCoultre.

In the context of its partnership with the Venice International Film Festival, Jaeger-LeCoultre is proud to support the Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia in its preservation and restoration of culturally significant motion pictures. This year, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of La Mostra, the Fondazione has restored the acclaimed Italian film from 1932, ‘Gli uomini che mascalzoni’ , This film was one of the highlights of the very first edition of the Venice International Film Festival, screened on August 11, 1932.

To raise funds for future restorations, Jaeger-LeCoultre has created a limited series of Reverso watches which is then autographed by major personalities from the world of motion pictures. Among the stars who signed the Reverso at the 2006 Venice International Film Festival are Oliver Stone, Valentino Rossi, Sergio Castellito, Catherine Deneuve, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Josh Hartnett.

These signed, collectors’ pieces from 2006 were auctioned on the eve of the 2007 festival, at a special event hosted by the Biennale di Venezia and famous watch auctioneers, Antiquorum. The entire proceeds from this auction were donated to the ‘Fund for Cinema’.
