Industry Award for 2007: The State of Geneva and the OPI reward the Geneva watchmaker Raymond Weil

October 2007

This year at the very famous and renowned economic event, the State of Geneva and the Office for the Promotion of Industry and Technology (OPI), in association with the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services (CCIG), were pleased to present the Industry Award for 2007 to Geneva watchmaker Raymond Weil.

The well-known Bâtiment des Forces Motrices (former power supply building) was the venue that welcomed more than 1,000 guests on the occasion of the fifth edition of the CCIG Economic Event. During the evening, tribute was paid to the players in the Geneva economy for their dynamism and their spirit of openness and innovation in the presence of Pierre-François Unger, President of the Department of the Economy and Health.

The Industry Award for 2007 was presented to Geneva watchmaker Raymond Weil. The president of the jury, Jean-Luc Favre, had the pleasure of handing this award to Olivier Bernheim, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Geneva brand.

“Raymond Weil enthusiastically supports all innovative projects, which may also be ahead of their time, necessitating the use of new communications channels that enable us to keep on getting closer and closer to our clients,” - explained Olivier Bernheim, going on to add – “Raymond Weil, which is part of the select circle of the last remaining, Swiss, independent, family, watchmaking companies, occupies a special place in the exclusive universe of the luxury watchmaking industry. The prime objective of our company, undergoing a full renewal and rejuvenation with the arrival of the third generation, represented by my sons Elie and Pierre, is clearly to establish ourselves in a lasting manner among the flagships of Swiss watchmaking.  This award is an extraordinary reward and recognition not only for all the developments undertaken and successfully completed by our company over these last years, but also a very timely encouragement for all of our future projects. We are very proud of it and once again would like to thank the jury, the State of Geneva and the OPI very warmly, for having presented us with the Industry Award for 2007 “.

The main objective of the Industry Award, initially created by the City of Geneva in 1985, is to honour and promote innovative Geneva industrial organizations, which are able to demonstrate their adaptability to the evolution of time. In 1991 the Award assumed a cantonal dimension. Today, under the guidance of the Department of the Economy and Health (DES), represented by the Companies’ section of the Office for Economic Promotion, it receives the valuable assistance of the Promotion Office for Industry and Technology (OPI).

By attributing the 2007 Award to Raymond Weil, the jury wanted to reward a young, industrial Geneva company, dynamic and innovative, which has demonstrated its ability to adapt with the evolution of its environment, showing evidence of excellence and integrating the innovations required to stay at the sharp edge of its branch.
