A United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) funded research document, titled “National Dialogue on the Contribution of Mining to Poverty Reduction,” stated that in Tanzania, small-scale mining has minimal effect on poverty, mostly due to Lack of leadership skills in local government, which constitute a major constraint on guiding the community through the challenges of poverty and the impact of mining in many Tanzanian communities.
