Swarovski's: New Tone Glitters

June 2003

In today's environment of mixed cultures and emotions from people, places and passions from all the continents of the world, it isn't surprising that we have moved into a nostalgic `vintage' epoch where happy, almost `infantile' forms such as butterflies and hearts inspire a `new romanticism'. This style which leans towards the use of ethnic elements, marries perfectly well with the shimmering eclat of Swarovski's facetted crystals and artisan techniques. In the jewelry domain, pavÉ work remains the predominant style, but pieces using the new Princess Baguette won't go unnoticed.
However, the upcoming season will be dominated by a trend towards tobacco-colored crystal and it can be found in Swarovski's innovative jewelry combining such natural elements as tortoiseshell, leather and polished coconut shell. The new Dido bracelet is composed of strips of smooth leather decorated with small golden domes set with brown crystals. Delia is a glittering, supple necklace and bracelet set with crystals and Daphne is a pendant combining a fine streak of Crystal Mesh and a brown acrylic disc. The Dora is a brooch luxuriously marrying leather and brown crystal. Perhaps the most adventurous and ethnic of the pieces is the Delfina, made of polished coconut shell with accents of gilded metal and tobacco-colored crystals.
