South Sea Jewels

June 2003

The fourth International South Sea Pearl Jewellery Design Competition unveiled its slate of winners in Hong Kong recently, choosing a total of 21 winning designs in the categories of bracelets, brooches, necklaces, pendants, earrings and rings. Designs were as varied as the pearls themselves, ranging from fantastic hair ornaments to feathered earrings, wraparound collars and bracelets with trailing strands of pearls. More than 600 entries were received, and this year's prize winners came from around the world: Asia, Europe and the United States. Designs were displayed in a special exhibit during the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show and presented in a gala fashion show during the opening night of the fair. Shown here is the elegant and angelic head ornament that won the bronze for Eva Shiu of Hong Kong. Featuring strands of diamond studded chains ending in South Sea pearls, this piece was produced by Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Co., Ltd.
