Sekikazu's Glittering Parasols

June 2003

Exuberant Japanese designer Sekikazu knows a good thing when he finds one, in this case a unique gemstone cut called the Parasol. A circular cut with a series of fine facets radiating from the center, this innovative cut achieves maximum brilliance in translucent gems such as blue topaz and citrine. Sekikazu uses the parasol cut in a series of feminine, scalloped designs in which the stone appears to float atop the setting. His latest innovation is a bold citrine necklace with alternating parasols accented with marquise-cut citrines set in delicately articulated yellow gold.
