With her mother a sculptor, her father a writer and her grandmother a painter, it would have seemed natural for Laura Gibson to pursue a career in the arts. Yet, her latent creativity took a backseat to her first career, that of a sales and marketing specialist for IBM. But one day, a visit to the internationally renowned Tucson Gem Show with a friend changed Laura's life forever.
A casual interest in colored gemstones became a passion, and Laura's creative juices began flowing. Having always enjoyed working with her hands, designing jewelry then came naturally and quickly. In 1996, she launched her own brand, specializing in colorful, elegant, yet simple and timeless designs. Each piece bears her special `LG' signature clasp as a guarantee of authenticity.
“Making jewelry is a creative release of energy for me. I create designs with a woman's coloring in mind. I believe that if a piece of jewelry goes with her hair and eyes, then it will go with almost anything she wears,” explains Laura. She often does trunk shows and demonstrates how different colors in jewelry can enhance a person's own natural coloring.
While color is the dominant feature of Laura Gibson's jewelry, another characteristic is its versatility. Her designs can be worn with blue jeans and t-shirts as well as with formal evening attire and, of course, with everything in between. “Sapphires, for example, can be casual or they can be dressy,” states the designer. “It depends on the person wearing the piece.”
Today many people are discovering the colorful palette of Laura Gibson designs, which are featured in fine jewelry stores and galleries across the country. In ad-dition, the designer will be present at this year's Couture Jewellery Collection and Conference in Arizona, as well as other major shows around the country.
