Spiral of Life Ring

May 2003

Jewelry designer Markus Beigelbeck worked together with biochemist Dr. Karl Deres to develop a series of rings with glass vials containing one's own or someone else's genetic information. Using a certain biochemical method, the DNA is isolated from the white blood cells in as little as 50 ml of blood. It is then preserved in a long-lasting colorless crystalline powder.
The extract may be colored with a special agent before being placed in the vial and then sealed tight by a glassblower. A world first, this vial can then be placed in any of many types of jewelry design.
