Classical “Heure Sautante” by Corum voted “Watch of the Year”

The 9th “Watch of the Year” trophy was awarded this year by “Montres Passion” and “Uhrenwelt” magazines to the Classical “Heure Sautante” model by Corum. Among the 40 candidates for the award, the jury of watchmaking professionals particularly appreciated the harmonious appearance of this watch. Classical and contemporary aspects merge in a creation that is original, aesthetically pleasing and meticulously well finished, in terms of the time display concept, the astonishing case design and the excellent wearer comfort.

The trophy was presented on November 13th to Corum CEO, Michel Pitteloud, in the Richemont room of the Lausanne Palace hotel, in a ceremony before a gathering of some two hundred personalities from the world of watchmaking, the media and communication.

Classical “Heure Sautante” plays with the characteristic lines of classical watches, while conferring the kind of innovative proportions that give it a resolutely contemporary design that makes a special garment for movements that are very special in their own right.

The one driving the “Watch of the Year” is a mechanical hand-wound movement featuring a tonneau shape that can adapt to the most varied kinds of cases. Its key characteristic is an hour display by successive jumps through a trapeze-shaped aperture placed in the upper part of a domed, guillochÉ dial which appears to be distended, as if the large minute numerals, from 15 to 45, were stretched downwards and narrowed upwards. They frame an off-centred dial with hour-markers, with a large cambered havana-type hand running over the minutes. The seconds hand runs over a mini dial with godrons, hollowed out just above the 30 minute numeral, as if it was trying to squash it.

The steel case with its plate-shaped conical profile, domed on top and curved below for a snug fit, give the illusion that the entire case follows the stretched form of the dial. The mobile upper lugs of the over-stitched alligator leather strap, shorter than the lower ones, slide along the side grooves of the case to enhance the soft, supple feel on the wrist.
Classical “Heure Sautante” comes in a choice of three different dial colours (black, silvered or copper-coloured and silvered) in limited numbered editions of 300 each.

In creating the Classical model, Corum displays the kind of creativity and innovation that play a major role on the Haute Horlogerie stage, where Corum has always been at ease and firmly intends to continue performing in the future.
