Patricia Suard and Schoeffel Pearls
Special Prize at Basel Award 2001 for the “sounding” bracelet

“Surreal Appeal” was the theme of the second international jewellery design competition held by the World Watch and Jewellery Show in Basel, together with ten renowned jewellery companies. Schoeffel selected the design by Patricia Suard, graduate of the Ecole de la Rue du Louvre, Paris and, once again, facilitated its realisation in the goldsmith workshop of Heike Baumann in Germany. She had already worked successfully with Schoeffel last year, making a major contribution to the winning of the Basel Award 2000.

The result of this proven co-operation: A distinctive bracelet in 18 carat white gold which harmoniously combines the surreal idea of the architectural construction with diamonds and the freedom and perfection of pearls. Here South Sea cultured pearls are cleverly inserted at irregular intervals into the inner side of the bracelet, thus making their sensitivity tangible. A further special feature are the two Tahiti cultured pearls which glide freely in the inner side of the bracelet, generating a mystic tone with every movement.

At the presentation ceremony in the presence of 1,500 invited guests in Messe Basel's festival hall the excitement was palpable right up to the last moment as the bracelet created by Patricia Suard received a special award. This year, the unusual nature of this “sounding” bracelet led the jury to award a special prize in addition to the three original awards. A major success for Schoeffel, the company which had already won the Basel Award 2000 last year.
