October 2013

Timed perfectly to coincide with the publication of issue no. 5/2013 of Europa Star, which contains a dossier dedicated to artistic crafts, Patek Philippe has opened a new microsite detailing the “Rare Handcrafts” carried out within the Geneva manufacture. The new sites continues the series that started in 2011 and adds to the existing chapters “Acoustics”, “Service” and “Ladies”.

The “Rare Handcrafts” theme features several films depicting the Patek Philippe heritage in these artisanal skills. Members of the Stern family explain the heritage of rare handcrafts in Geneva and at Patek Philippe, present exquisite timepieces from the Patek Philippe Museum Collection and explore the works of skilled artisans such as marquetry-makers, gem-setters, guillocheurs, chainsmiths, enamellers and engravers. In addition to the films a first 360° exploration of a Dome clock is unveiled.

Patek Philippe has a long standing history, as well as an established know-how and expertise in rare handcrafts, illustrated in a large collection of unique and current collection timepieces. For decades, the company has been dedicated to preserving these age-old decorative skills by regularly commissioning pieces from rare independent or in-house artisans. In the new chapter, the Stern family explains the importance of safeguarding these skills for the future.
