Junghans, when “Made in Germany” is made to be timeless

Known as “the watch with the star” a Junghans timepiece stands for over 150 years of quality and reliability. Long-established and highly regarded, its men’s and ladies’ Meister line has just received a face-lift, keeping up with contemporary trends.

Both tradition and technological innovation are reflected in the design and engineering of Junghans watches. As a result, its collections offer a spectrum of technologies: from classic mechanical watches, to quartz technology, all the way to radio-controlled and solar powered watches.

But based on its core DNA - focused on lasting values and tradition - it’s no surprise that one of Junghans’ most successful collection of timepieces has been the one with that timeless, vintage feel. As a result, it’s modest case sizes, clean and minimalistic dials, and solid movements that define the brand’s Meister range of watches.

That doesn’t mean the collection is not up to the challenge of contemporary styles. In 2015 the independent brand based out of Schramberg, Germany freshened up the Meister models with a new colour pallet. But being classic and German, the brand still chose understated combinations of dial shades and case colours, which underscores the masterful character of these timepieces.

It’s exactly that feeling that is captured on the dial of the Meister Handaufzug (hand-winding) and Meister Chronoscope, presented in a blue sheen, with a cognac-coloured leather strap skillfully accentuating the hue of the dial.

The Meister Agenda also sports some nice visual symmetry. The calendar week and power reserve have their bowl-shaped presence on the dial, and the balance is completed by the even positioning of the weekday and date display. As with the other watches in the range, we see a fine contrast here too, thanks to the graphite-grey dial and case in silver.

The moon phase Meister Kalendar model is another example of fine coordination between the hue of the elegant pink gold-coloured case, and the graphite-grey dial. The most classic of the Meister watches - the Meister Classic, what else - also incorporates this colour dialogue in its new, updated form.

On the ladies’ side we get more of that colour harmony, characterized by gentle yet distinctive colour tones. With their white-polished blue or grey dials, the timepieces are a feminine interpretation of the brand’s historic, archetypical men’s model.

In that, the brand has tried to add a touch of romance to their ladies watches, through the Roman numerals and diamond appliqué - which ensure a glittering presence on the wrist - making the Meister Ladies a true gem.
