Italian design brand Sicis has released a new timepiece inspired by Japanese art and culture, boasting an impressive and imposing rooster at its centre. The watch is an excellent artistic display achieved through a detailed micro-mosaic technique, for which is growing brand is renowned.

The world is all one big mosaic for Sicis. The Italian brand has been exploring the technique for a quarter of a century now, but mosaics have been used for thousands of years to make art immortal. Sicis has a similar goal in mind - working at the confluence of art, man and technology – and creating a wide product range of memorable art, jewellery and watches.

Thanks to their expertise, Sicis produces some of the most impressive artistic timepieces out there today, focusing on a micro-mosaic technique. The watch that caught our eye was the Red Rooster, which draws inspiration from one of the most famous paintings by Japanese artist Ito Jakuchu, aptly entitled ’Roosters’.

Sicis has been closely studying Japanese culture and the techniques used by different artists. Japanese artists are renowned for their attention to detail, and the work of Jakuchu is no exception. So the artists at the Sicis Maison had their work cut out for them in applying a similar design to their watches. They recreated every color and nuance of a rooster’s plumage with extreme precision, using their famed micro-mosaic technique.

It takes master mosaic artists dozens of hours to complete a single dial, all by hand. But the result is well worth the effort. A wide range of shades of colour add a three-dimensionality to the watch dial, which highlights the strong aspect of the animal; after all, the rooster is a symbol of pride in Japanese culture. Its impressive dial is inlaid with 18 carat white gold and a black diamond is placed on the crown. The impressive package is housed in a stainless steel case and is powered by a Swiss Made automatic movement.

The Red Rooster by Sicis is just one example of the brand’s passion for the beautiful shades of history and art. It also demonstrates the quality of execution in their watch division. But that’s not all; the Italian-based design company has recently purchased a huge warehouse in New York City to meet increased global demand for its wide range of mosaic products. We’ll be closely following just how far their watch division goes on the American market in the coming years.
