The pure and elegant timepiece is struck in 18k yellow gold and also boasts an in-line perpetual calendar complication.

Yet another unique timepiece release for this year’s Only Watch auction, and this time it comes to us by way of Breguet. The Swiss watchmaker and its President and CEO Marc Hayek have been taking part in the charity auction since 2005, but this contribution might just be my favourite thus far.

For this year, the manufacture is donating the elegant Breguet Classique Quantième Perpétuel en Ligne 7715, a watch with a fine blend of visual balance, functionality and performance.

Set on a highly legible dial, the customary indications for the hours and minutes play the starring role, thanks to their blued steel open-tipped hands sweeping over a Roman numeral chapter ring. They are complemented by a perpetual calendar which displays the days, months, dates and years.

The date function can be found in the background at 6 o’clock, which has been sized appropriately to ensure that it can be read at a quick glance. The other related indications are stacked vertically up to 12 o’clock.

The finely hand-engraved silvered 18k gold dial is highlighted by traditional “Clous de Paris” hobnailing, and the counters, rimmed by a guilloché border pattern, are equally pure in finishing.

The relatively small case is true to the classic theme of this watch, coming in at a modest 39mm in diameter. The fact that it’s also made from 18k yellow gold with a delicately fluted caseband only adds to the cause.

Through the sapphire crystal on the case back we can appreciate the automatic Calibre 502QPLT. The entirely hand-engraved movement has an offset oscillating weight, as well as an inverted in-line lever escapement with silicon horns.

This one-of-a-kind model will make its first appearance at the Monaco Yacht Show on September 27-30. After a world tour, the Breguet Classique will find its new owner during the Only Watch 2017 auction in Geneva on Saturday November 11, 2017.
