ArtyA goes for a spin with Race 3D

Sporting a a spinning dial, the latest addition to the Race collection is a hand-made 3D model that pays tribute to the incredible 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO.

If you’re looking to discover innovations in the luxury watch industry, you don’t need to look much further than Yvan Arpa’s small watchmaking manufacture. In its relatively short lifespan, ArtyA has made a name for itself as one of the more unique and exciting watch brands.

Its watches are especially popular among younger and professional watch aficionados, and we can easily see why they had a busy booth at Baselworld’s “Les Ateliers” area, which highlights the industry’s more daring brands.

The brand’s Race collection is a fine example of sporty yet avant-garde watchmaking. The latest addition is a new 3D model that stands out from the otherwise solid collection.

This extremely exclusive 3D version of the Race collection is inspired by a very special car: the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta. The beautiful car is also apparently the most expensive one to be ever sold at public auction, and just over $38 million USD was paid for it at a 2014 auction in California.

More specifically, the watch is inspired by the wheel of the vintage race car whose now iconic design has been replicated on the dial. Thanks to the extremely delicate and labour intensive work of Yvan Arpa, the dial of the watch not only looks like the iconic rim but it also spins like it.

To showcase this intricate work, the watch is packaged in a relatively large 44.5mm stainless steel case. Underneath, the watch is powered by the brand’s Aion COSC automatic movement. It delivers up to 52 hours of power reserve and it can be appreciated through the case back.

The watch is available in an extremely limited edition of only nine pieces, which will retail from about 15,900 Swiss francs. That’s a signification figure, but odds are it’s still much less than a single wheel of the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO.
