Introducing Christopher Ward's new C63 Sealander Collection

Christopher Ward, having produced pilots’ watches, divers’ watches and dress models in formal styles, wanted to combine all three watch roles into one timepiece. The result is the new C63 Sealander collection, an “everywatch” offered at an affordable price.

T

he C63 Sealander is Christopher Ward’s new ‘go anywhere, do everything’ watch collection which introduces the brand’s affordable ‘EveryWatch’ – for dress, work and play – and there are three unique models to choose from. The C63 Sealander Automatic is an automatic three hander, the C63 Sealander GMT has a GMT hand and fixed bezel, and the titanium C63 Sealander Elite is the lightest automatic mechanical watch that Christopher Ward has ever made along with its first retractable crown.

Christopher Ward, having produced pilots’ watches, divers’ watches and dress models in formal styles, wanted to combine all three watch roles into one timepiece. Their “luxury sport” watches which could, arguably, go from beach to office to soiree, failed to address one key factor in serving as an ‘EveryWatch’. With the C63 Sealander collection, Christopher Ward redressed this: their do-everything models are affordable.

It starts with a shape that accounts for the vast majority of timepieces sold during the wristwatch’s first century-plus: every C63 Sealander employs the brand’s Light-catcherTM round stainless steel case, which is water-resistant to 150m thanks to its screw-in exhibition caseback and screw-down crown; for the C63 Sealander Elite, the crown is the brand’s new retractable design. Visually, too, round is the perfect form because watch hands trace a circle.

Next, Christopher Ward selected a movement known for its reliability to power all three versions of C63 Sealander – the Automatic, the GMT and the Elite. The Sellita SW base calibre has been adapted to suit each model to show hours, minutes, seconds and date. The C63 Sealander GMT adds the display of a second time zone while the C63 Sealander Elite undergoes rigorous testing to earn COSC chronometer certification. All are fitted with the unique Christopher Ward quick-release strap and bracelet system for easy interchanging of straps, including a bespoke metal bracelet with micro-adjustment.

The least-expensive mechanical model, the C63 Sealander Automatic, measures 39mm in diameter. Offered with a choice of black or white hand-finished, polished lacquer dials, with applied, faceted brushed and polished indexes. For the C63 Sealander GMT, the case size is the same at 39mm, and the second time zone is indicated by a large orange hand with white luminous infill. It, too, is available with black or white hand-finished, polished lacquer dials, with applied, faceted brushed and polished indexes.

For the flagship C63 Sealander Elite, the case size increases to 40mm and the material for it is Grade 2 titanium. Arguably the most-affordable COSC-certified chronometer available, as well as being Christopher Ward’s lightest ever mechanical watch, the C63 Sealander Elite has a matte-black dial with see-through segments.

The new C63 Sealander Collection is available from £595 for the C63 Sealander Automatic, from £795 for the C63 Sealander GMT and from £1,150 for the C63 Sealander Elite.
