Established by Pierre Jaquet Droz in 1738, in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Pierre (1721-1790) was a genius in micromechanics and creator of the most beautiful automatons of the Age of Enlightenment. “The Writer”, “The Musician” and “The Artist” are artistic and mechanical masterpieces. He contributed to the development and improvement of various watchmaking mechanisms (bar calibre with suspended barrel, oscillating mass for automatic winding, push-piece winding mechanism, “butterfly” enamelling). Only in 2001 did the brand genuinely return to its roots when it was acquired by the Swatch Group, which offered it a brand new manufacture in its place of origin, in La Chaux-de-Fonds, but also a prestige/luxury positioning that allowed Jaquet Droz to once again cultivate Pierre’s spirit of excellence, innovation and artistry. Today the brand is famous for its distinctive designs with off-set time displays, such as on the Grande Seconde and Quantième Perpétuel models.
