ince Antiquity, the red moon has been a bearer of messages. An omen of power to some, warning signs of natural and meteorological phenomena to others, it has always been observed very closely, and with a certain amount of fascination. Words to describe it vary. In some cultures, it is called a “blood moon” or a “copper moon”. Offering a new perspective, HYT has chosen to baptise the latest iteration of its Moon Runner watch “Red Magma” to highlight the energy and vitality of the colour, referencing both the moon and the molten interior of the Earth.
- The representation of the moon is completely unprecedented, not only with the presence of the large celestial body, but also due to its central position at the heart of the watch’s technical measurement system.
The 48 mm case, 52.3 mm in length and 21.8 deep, is made from hydrocarbon and titanium with red accents, topped with a sapphire crystal dome with an anti-reflective coating. The black and red dial at its heart, with 3D applied indexes and white luminescent numerals gives pride of place to a representation of the moon. The enhance the perfect legibility of this measuring instrument, the minutes hand is coated with white Lumicast, as are the markings on the matt black months and days discs.
The model is driven by a manual winding mechanical movement, calibre 601-MO (41 jewels) running at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) with 72 hours’ power reserve. This calibre was designed by Eric Coudray, a well-known master in the field and Prix Gaïa laureate. Under the guidance of Pur TEC, and with the assistance of Paul Clementi, another Prix Gaïa winner, the movement has been given a refined aesthetic with elegant satin-finished, laser-treated and bead-blasted components.
