Sharper, stronger: Chronoswiss presents the Neo Digiteur

Chronoswiss revives a digital icon. In 2005, Gerd-Rüdiger Lang presented the Digiteur, a fully mechanical, handless wristwatch unlike anything else on the market. Now, two decades later, Chronoswiss reclaims the spirit of the Digiteur and propels it into the Modern Mechanical era. Sharper, sleeker, and more technically refined: a pioneering spirit, reborn in stainless steel. The mechanical marvel without hands returns.

wenty years after its debut, Chronoswiss presents the Neo Digiteur - a re-engineered tribute to the iconic early-2000s original created by founder Gerd-Rüdiger Lang. Conceived at the crossroads of vintage inspiration and mechanical rebellion, the Digiteur was never just a watch. It was a challenge to convention. A mechanical digital timepiece. A watch without hands. A statement.

The Neo Digiteur traces its roots back to the golden age of mechanical innovation in the 1920s and 30s, a time when watches with digital displays and jumping hours offered a futuristic new way to read time. These montres sans aiguilles (watches without hands) fused precision engineering with bold aesthetics and became icons of style and progress. It was an era on the cusp of change, a spirit that would later inspire Chronoswiss.

In 2005, Gerd-Rüdiger Lang reinterpreted that heritage with the original Chronoswiss Digiteur. It was a fully mechanical, handless wristwatch unlike anything else on the market. The Digiteur combined rare horological know-how with unapologetically unconventional aesthetics. Housed in a tailored rectangular case and powered by a historic Fleurier movement, it was produced in a limited series of 999 pieces crafted exclusively in fine metals.

Now, two decades later, Chronoswiss reclaims the spirit of the Digiteur and propels it into the Modern Mechanical era. Sharper, sleeker, and more technically refined.

What immediately sets the Neo Digiteur apart is its case - a bold, architectural, tailored rectangular form. The barrel-shaped silhouette, faithful to the spirit of the original, has been fully reimagined by the design team at the Atelier Lucerne. With assertive lines and a pronounced profile, the case feels both sculptural and wearable. A sandblasted horizontal segment on the case side adds lightness and contrast to the structured geometry, while polished edges refine the visual interplay.

Function meets form in a redesigned crown. A contemporary interpretation of the traditional onion shape, now flattened on the underside to improve both ergonomics and design coherence.

At the heart of the Neo Digiteur lies a rare mechanical concept: a jumping hour regulator without hands, executed with surgical precision. Time is displayed through three crisply cut apertures. The jumping hour at 12 o’clock, digital minutes at center, and running seconds in a horizontal window at 6 o’clock. Together, they form a mechanical digital regulator. A complication that feels both futuristic and deeply analog.

Powering the display is the new hand-wound Chronoswiss Caliber C.85757 - a tribute to the original Chronoswiss postal code from 1983. Beating at 3 Hz and offering a 48-hour power reserve, the movement is fitted with a proprietary in-house module developed entirely by Chronoswiss. It manages the energy demands of the jumping hour system while ensuring the smooth progression of the minute and second discs. Water resistance is rated to 5 ATM.

The bridges and wheels are partially hand-guilloché, crafted in-house at the Atelier Lucerne and visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. Chronoswiss pays tribute to the historic FEF (Fabrique d’Ebauches Fleurier) calibers once used by Lang himself as the caseback window is more than decoration: It is a visual bridge between eras, honoring legacy while embracing modernity.

Two limited editions of the Neo Digiteur offer distinct personalities. The Neo Digiteur Granit, imited to 99 pieces, features an anthracite dial with vertical satin finishing, and disks with minimalist deep-blue glossy numerals. The Neo Digiteur Sand, also limited to 99 pieces, features a 4N sandblasted dial and elegant deep-blue glossy numerals.

The Neo Digiteur is not a reproduction. It is a reinvention. A collector’s piece, a mechanical statement, and a design object in motion.
