La Vallée, founded in a Venetian workshop in the 1930s, has spent decades creating bespoke timepieces for a private international clientele and, in recent years, introduced a series of exclusive limited-edition creations that bridged its custom craftsmanship with emerging technical research.

Designed and developed by Luciano Sasso, La Vallée’s Head of R&D, COSMO embodies the brand’s most daring step forward. With this creation, La Vallée advances the innovative trajectory initiated with its patented perpetual calendar, unveiling a breakthrough second patent that marks a decisive step into a new era of horological exploration.

At the heart of COSMO lies a mechanism that rotates on itself once every 23.934 hours—one full sidereal day—encased beneath a hand-blown Murano glass dome. This dome, engineered through a combination of traditional glassblowing and La Vallée’s proprietary cutting and locking system, houses the entire movement without external contact. Winding and setting are performed by gently rotating the dome itself, a gesture designed to evoke the weightless motion of the heavens.

COSMO’s technical breakthroughs include a redesigned, ultra-efficient escapement, a magnetically suspended 72mm balance wheel beating at an exceptionally low frequency and a flexure-based one-minute remontoire d’egalité delivering equally distributed batches of energy. A patent-pending transmission system grants the timepiece an extraordinary 406-day power reserve despite its mass.

Beyond its mechanical virtuosity, COSMO offers profound personalisation. Its astronomical indications—stars visible from a chosen location, sunrise and sunset times, zodiac, dawn and dusk duration—are tailored to the owner’s “personal sky”. Most uniquely, the entire escapement can be designed to beat at the owner’s resting heart rate, forging an intimate and living connection between the timepiece and its owner.

With only three to five pieces made each year, COSMO is more than a timekeeper: it is a crafted, calibrated and deeply personal universe.
