nspired by celestial phenomena, the Sunset, Alba and Borealis dials combine technical complexity with poetic aesthetics. Each dial is entirely handcrafted through a meticulous process that merges the precision of hand-operated guilloché machines with the depth and luminosity of natural lacquer. The result is a striking interplay of texture, light and colour, creating unique miniature works of art.
For the guilloché work, Awake collaborates with the renowned Italian Renzetti family, among the last workshops in Europe dedicated to this rare art form. Using historic nineteenth-century straight-line and rose-engine lathes, artisans manually engrave intricate patterns into the metal dials. Every groove is cut entirely by hand, making each piece unique.
The dials are then sent to Hanoi, where master lacquer artisans apply the traditional Son Mài technique. Derived from the sap of the Rhus Verniciflua tree, the lacquer is enriched with natural pigments and layered repeatedly before being polished to reveal remarkable depth and brilliance. This demanding process enhances the engraved patterns while producing subtle gradients and reflections that evolve beautifully in changing light.
The collection also introduces a redesigned visual identity for Awake, including a handwritten logo inspired by the gestures of artisans. The new 38mm stainless steel case features elegant proportions, a polished concave bezel, domed sapphire crystal and 100-metre water resistance, balancing vintage inspiration with modern sophistication.
Powering the watches is the Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement, offering a 68-hour power reserve and a custom tungsten rotor with refined finishing. Jean Rousseau Alcantara straps, paired with a new micro-adjustable buckle, complete the experience.
