Charles Girardier Plénitude: the key to a new chapter

Charles Girardier introduces its first in-house-developed manufacture movement with Plénitude. Two references combine a 39.5mm steel case with a distinctive power-reserve mechanism, drawing inspiration from the winding key of a historical Girardier l’aîné pocket watch.

F

or Charles Girardier, a historical object supplies the starting point for each collection. Plénitude takes its cue from the winding key of a Girardier l’aîné pocket watch, shaping both its crown and the thinking behind an unusual power-reserve mechanism.

Presented at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026, the collection introduces the maison’s first fully in-house-developed manufacture movement. Engineered with independent watchmakers Cyrano Devanthey and Dominique Buser at its Buchs workshop, it powers two references sharing a 39.5mm steel case.

The Volcano Power Reserve translates stored energy through a truncated cone travelling along a vertical screw. It descends during winding and rises as the mainspring unwinds. A feeler arm follows its position, transmitting this movement to a hand indicating the reserve along the dial’s twelve-to-six axis.

Plénitude's crown takes its shape from the winding key of a Girardier l'aîné pocket watch. Beneath the dial, a travelling cone drives the Volcano Power Reserve indication, giving the historical inspiration a new mechanical expression.

The PL1 pairs this display with faceted dauphine-style hands, trapezoidal indexes and small seconds. White Pearl, Champagne and Majestic Purple dials offer three interpretations. The PL2 adds a moon phase within the small-seconds subdial, with exclusive Roman numerals and Pearl White or Blue Ocean finishes. Its titanium moons are laser-engraved from astronomical imagery; the display accumulates one day’s error in 122 years.

The hand-wound CG PL1 and CG PL2 calibres operate at 3Hz and provide 60 hours of autonomy. A variable-inertia balance accompanies hand-bevelled bridges, Côtes de Genève and a mirror-polished crown wheel. Each movement bears the proprietary CG Seal, covering precision, hand-finishing and traditional methods.
