Strom: from the skeletons of Armin to the cruizers of Daniel

May 2007

Since 1983, Armin Strom has earned a reputation for excellence in a rather particular domain of timekeeping: skeleton watches. He has done so by creating custom-made skeleton timepieces, chiseled and engraved by hand, sometimes set with precious gemstones, for a clientele of collectors that has little by little grown increasingly larger over the years. Over time, he has gradually formed a collection of original and beautifully made watches. One example is the world’s smallest hand-carved skeleton watch for ladies, an exploit that earned him recognition in the Guinness Book of Records.
Since the spring of 2001, Armin Strom has been joined in the business by his son, Daniel Strom. Both men have moved into new ateliers located in the watch metropolis of Bienne. While Armin Strom is taking care of the production of unique watches, or those in small series, his son is in charge of sales and marketing.
It is from this favoured ‘observation post’ that Daniel Strom, who is totally familiar with the entire production chain, decided to launch, under the generic name of ‘Strom’ a collection of robust, sporty, and trendy watches called ‘Cruizer’.
Combining Armin’s high level of watchmaking savoir-faire and Daniel’s feeling for today’s trends, the Strom ‘Cruizer’ is at the crossroads of two worlds. A very affirmed design, a powerful case, the use of innovative materials (carbon fibre, texalium, smoky quartz, etc.), co-exist with the more typical timekeeping finishings (circular graining, rhodium plating) of the automatic mechanical movements that have been carefully finished and adapted.
This meeting of two worlds gives these pieces the power of contemporary design combined with the added value of traditional timekeeping.
