AMVOX01 by Jaeger-LeCoultre

April 2005

Will the automobile be the future of watchmaking? We can ask this question since there are so many partnerships happening between the watch industry and the automobile industry today. But not all of these relationships have the legitimacy as that which now unites Jaeger-LeCoultre to the legendary Aston Martin.
What is less remembered is that the Jaeger ‘branch’ of Jaeger-LeCoultre has a brilliant past in the domain of automobile gauges, the famous Jaeger, which, at its height of glory, equipped many prestige cars, and 95% of racing cars. In 1921, the ‘Jaeger London Ltd’ was created that sealed the union between watchmaking and the automobile.

Jaeger-LeCoultre stopped making gauges a long time ago but does make watches among the finest of Swiss timekeepers. The fact that this venerable Swiss brand should ally itself with Aston Martin, the select prince of the very British car, is therefore doubly justified.
The first watch to come out of this partnership goes by the code name AMV0X01. It was inspired by a memorable watch, the Memovox dating back to 1965, whose design was reminiscent of ‘historical 270˚ car gauges.’ It displays large white numbers, recalling the gauges, and luminescent Calypso hands on its black dial in the steel version or on the ruthenium dial in its titanium version. Equipped with an alarm, whose pleasant sound comes from a unique alloy and a special shape, the timepiece is equipped with the Calibre JLG 918 that has a working reserve of 45 hours and 28,800 vibrations/hour. Bon voyage.
