During this year’s Cannes Film Festival, de Grisogono hosted an extraordinary evening to launch the brand’s latest creation, the Power Breaker, at the Eden Roc Hotel in Cap d’Antibes.
Attended by the jet set and as many famous names as most of us have had hot dinners, Fawaz Gruosi, de Grisogono’s founder and Flavio Briatore, the Renault F1 Team Manager, presented a watch that owes much to Formula 1 racing since the four-part case - bezel, frame, back and crown guards – is designed in motor racing style that recalls the streamline silhouette of an F1 racing car.









The chronograph pushpieces extend along the entire side of the case (54.23 x 43.33 mm x 15.23 mm thick) and the watch is equipped with an ETA self-winding mechanical basic Calibre with a Dubois Dépraz chronograph sub-assembly. The chronograph functions are central seconds hand in black with a red tip and cockpit-style totalizers for 30-minutes and 12-hours.
There is a two-level chronograph dial with broad inlaid red lacquered hands and superposed on the main dial plate is the silhouette of an F1 racing wheel, 0.70 thick, punctuated by six screw heads. The F1 influence is carried further with the gearbox figures 2, 3 and 4 that appear on the right of the dial.
The watch, which is water-resistant to 30 metres, is available in stainless steel, PVD-finished black steel, ‘Browny Brown’ mat-finished tawny pink gold (de Grisogono’s latest trendy coloured gold), the latter also being available with various gemstone settings including brown diamonds.
Finally, to emphasize the F1 liaison, the Power Breaker is fitted with a special rubber strap that bears the official inscriptions F1 Formula 1 (another unique element) and Power Breaker. The strap is available in black, red, blue, yellow or brown and it comes with an adjustable deployment clasp actioned by twin pushers.
The first five hundred Power Breaker chronographs in all styles will also feature an engraved signature of Flavio Briatore.
