EMILE CHOURIET Ice Cliff

Based in Meyrin, in the canton of Geneva, the watchmaker Emile Chouriet presents its first in-house mechanical movement after three years of development, as well as Ice Cliff, a timepiece with an elegant and angular design inspired by craggy peaks.

F

or Jean Depéry, founder of the Genevan brand Emile Chouriet, developing and producing his very own movement is a dream finally come true. Launched in 2016, the self-winding EC5318 calibre now equips four timep ieces all designed to grace the female wrist: Soleos, Héritier, Alchimie and Fairy Flower. This movement, designed at the Emile Chouriet site in Meyrin, in the canton of Geneva, displays hours, minutes and seconds centrally, with the date positioned on the dial at 3 o’clock. It offers a 45-hour power reserve.

The latest model to benefit from the new EC5318 calibre and housed in a 29mm steel case, Héritier Lady is an elegant, classic wristwatch. The rim is composed of markers, drawn like delicate pen strokes, and three black Roman numerals set upon a white-lacquered dial. The discreet date window is displayed at 3 o’clock. At the heart of the porcelain dial sit a set of slender steel hands tracking the hours and minutes. The seconds are also positioned at the centre.

Rugged like a mountain range, Ice Cliff is angular in shape with its slanting bezel and silver dial featuring a grey, spiky chapter ring. The 40mm steel casing – which can be worn by both men and women – houses the EC5318 calibre, on an ETA2824 base. The self-winding mechanical movement tracks the hours, minutes and seconds as well as the date.

Alpine peaks are inscribed onto the dial of the automatic Ice Cliff model, whose wide anthracite bezel is etched with shard-like notches. The applied Super- LumiNova® markers are coated in frosty white to remind us of the permanent snowy peaks of the Alpine summits. Hours, minutes and seconds are displayed centrally on this steel timepiece.
