Where Business Begins: Federal Councillor Deiss opens BASELWORLD 2006

March 2006

The World Watch and Jewellery Show, BASELWORLD, opens its doors in Basel from 30th March until 6th April 2006. Swiss Minister for Economic Affairs, Joseph Deiss, will open the Show and the newly created “First Avenue”.
With the innovations and trends it showcases, BASELWORLD will consolidate its position as the world’s leading event for the watch and jewellery industry.

The world’s largest and most important trade Show for the watch and jewellery industry, BASELWORLD, opens its doors in Basel on Thursday, 30th March 2006. With a surface area of 160,000 m2, BASELWORLD 2006 is the largest trade event to be held in Switzerland.

It will be opened by Federal Councillor Joseph Deiss, President of the Government Barbara Schneider, René Kamm (CEO of Swiss Exhibition) and Jacques J. Duchêne (President of the Exhibitors Advisory Council).

2127 exhibitors from the watch and jewellery industry from 45 countries will showcase their latest models and collections, all of which are of the highest standard, at BASELWORLD 2006. Many of the companies will be exhibiting exclusively at BASELWORLD. During the trade show 90,000 business visitors from over 100 countries are expected in Basel.

One of the highlights of this year’s global event for watches and jewellery will be the opening of the new “First Avenue” in the Hall of Visions. Following changes to the internal layout, for the first time, Hall 2 now features multi-floor stands. This has created, as a result, an unrivalled platform for the world’s leading luxury brands. The newly designed “First Avenue” also reflects the increasing overlap between the watch and jewellery industries. The growing significance of the design and presentation of jewellery watches by traditional jewellery brands can now be accommodated in “First Avenue”. The new area adds a further dimension to this year’s BASELWORLD.
