Obaku - A 52 year old chair and a brand new watch

August 2010

www.worldwatchweb.com- It was 1958 when the Danish architect, Arne Jacobsen, created a chair, which would enter into the history of furniture. The chair was named the ‘Egg’ and it looked new and contemporary 52 years ago. Today it still fits into any contemporary home and the same design is widely sold to design lovers around the globe.

Obaku - A 52 year old chair and a brand new watch Lau Liengård Ruge and Christian Mikkelsen are the creators of the Obaku watches.

This fall the watch brand Obaku Harmony will launch three new watch designs which the company hopes will become evergreens in he world of watches.

Obaku - A 52 year old chair and a brand new watch Obaku model V133 will be launched this fall and the edge of the watch is just one millimeter thin.

Signs of an evergreen

“In 2007 I made this watch”, Lau Liengaard Ruge says while stretching out his arm and showing off a completely black, slightly curved, rectangular watch. “It is one of our best selling models and I think the simplicity of the design is the explanation. The design has been cut down to a minimum of information. Notice the horizontal lines which recur throughout the design from the integration of the strap to the surface of the dial andthe hour markers”. The company Obaku expects to be producing and selling this watch for the next 100 years. Unfortunately we need to wait a little to see whether they will be right.
