The International Gemological Institute was chosen by the Chinese authorities to bring practical knowledge in the diamond field. The Chinese government has very recently decided to accelerate the development of the diamond industry. If anyway millions of people are going to buy diamonds in the near future then why not manufacturing a good part of it in China. Many diamond factories and jewelry shops are opening. Universities started to give courses in gemology. Chinese teachers are trained to teach their know-how to a new generation of students.
As the major Diamond Centre Worldwide, Antwerp has the professional skills in rough diamonds, manufacturing and polished diamonds. IGI is the first and only foreign institute whose gemological courses are almost fully subsidised by the Chinese authorities.
