SUCCESS FOR THE SECOND EDITION OF MAXIMA

Mediterranean Fair of jewellery, silverware, gifts
and furnishing complements
Palermo, 9-12th March 2001

At Maxima, “Mediterranean Fair of jewellery, gifts and furnishing complements”, presented novelties and events of specific interest to various sectors. At the inauguration of the fair Gaetano Cavalieri (President of C.I.B.J.O) and Sicilian authorities took place and cut the red ribbon.

The fair, which lasted from 9-12th March, was created from the agreement between Promopalermo, Confcommercio's service company, and the Fiera del Mediterraneo Board with the objective of relaunching the production activities of Sicilian enterprises and creating a new pole of commercial trade in the Mediterranean area. ORMediterranea, a service company, active in trade fairs for more over twenty years has organized it, with consultant Mrs. Mariella Glorioso, who realises events in the jewellery and giftsware sectors, since 25 years.

Two hundred exhibitors have been present at Maxima and over 3.500 visitors visited the fair. Foreign visitors were coming from the Mediterranean area, such as Spain, Malta, Morocco and Tunisia. ORMediterranea extended invitations to delegations of important countries in order to make promotion abroad constantly.

In this edition as well, five product groups were foreseen (jewellery, gift items and silverware, handicrafts, lighting, bonbonnières) and were presented in three pavilions:
Pav 5/A and 5/B: Jewellery, Watches, Silverware
Pav. 20: Gift items, Silverware, Lighting, Trade
Pav. 16: Handcrafts and Bonbonnières

There were many cultural initiatives and professional updates in the various sectors, that played a main role in this fair, for example the gold competition entitled "Sky,
Sun, Earth, Sea and the Gold Art of Sicily in the III Millennium", whose goal was promoting, encouraging and stimulating the Sicilian gold craft.
The selection of drawings or jewels sent has taken place Saturday afternoon, by a jury made up of representatives of the jewellery sector, such as Gaetano Cavalieri, President of C.I.B.J.O., who played the role of the president of the jury, and Italian journalists, as well as representatives of the Sicilian Region and the Palermo Commune. The prize-giving has taken place during a gala, during which a spectacular ballet with 10 dancers, who wore the six final jewels, enchanted all the guests.

During the fair it took place the presentation of the book “Jewels of Sicily” (Pub. Flaccovio - ITL 185.000), which covers five centuries of the Sicilian goldsmith's craft, edited by author Maria Concetta di Natale.
