The MIH appoints a man of standing as Curator

January 2001

The International Museum of Horology (M.I.H.) of La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, has appointed Ludwig Oechslin, aged 49, as Curator. Mr Oechslin's academic record is outstanding: he studied archeology, ancient history, astronomy and history of sciences and acquired experience in the field of museum sciences in Rome, Munich, Vienna, Salzburg and Prague. He is well-known for his numerous publications and lectures at the Polytechnic School of Zurich on the history of watches, of time, of art and of technique. From 1976 to 1983 he also trained as watchmaker-repairer.
Mr Oechslin said that as curator of the M.I.H. his priority will be to collect pieces stamped with a historical identity, as well as enhancing the role played by watchmakers. “I intend to analyse the social history underlying the watch items on show”, he further commented.
