INDIAN JEWELS AT CHRISTIE'S

Magnificent Jewels
15 May 2002

Geneva - India will be the keynote of Christie's forthcoming auction of Magnificent Jewels to be held on May 15th at the Hotel Richemond in Geneva. The catalogue presents 430 lots, including several important gemstones, of which the highlight is undoubtedly the most important briolette diamond ever to appear at auction.

A briolette diamond of 75.51 carats

The briolette cut, favoured by the Maharadjas, is often associated with Mughal jewels. The 75.51 carat briolette diamond offered by Christie's is exceptional by its size and quality. It is the second most important briolette diamond known after the Briolette of India. Of D colour, internally flawless clarity, and of type II A, it is reminiscent of diamonds mined in South Africa and India. Mounted as a necklace, suspended to an entwined twin sapphire hoop, it is estimated at SFr. 10,000,000-12,000,000/$6,000,000-7,000,000.
