Hands, the making of humankind

After Europa Star Jewellery, after Reloved with its focus on pre-owned and collectibles, we are getting ready to extend our portfolio of publications to include another vibrant theme: craftsmanship.

H

ands, a brand-new magazine, will launch in autumn 2026 at Homo Faber, an extraordinary event held every two years in Venice and dedicated to the world’s most talented artisans.

Why Hands? Because the “intelligence of the hand” is the most important element in watchmaking as in other disciplines which no longer serve a practical, daily purpose but are the reflection of the evolution of human knowledge over 50,000 years: the creation of jewellery, musical instruments, saddles, furniture or mouth-blown glass, where the line between art and craft can become hard to define.

Hands is also the title of the special report in this issue of Europa Star, intended as a foretaste of this theme, navigating between crafts, hand-finishing, the transmission and preservation of techniques and, most of all, the individuals behind them. It won’t have escaped your attention that, more than any other aspect, brands are increasingly emphasising the finishing of their watches and movements. This is how important craftsmanship has become.

Hands evokes the sense of touch and the physical contact with paper that is a part of our identity. Our publishing house will celebrate its centennial in 2027. A century during which the hand has continued to commit to paper our observations on watchmaking, jewellery and micro-mechanics. Nothing compares to the moment when the fruit of intellectual labours take tangible form, such as a magazine. We hope this is your experience, too, and that the magazine you hold in your hand is something you will want to keep. So join us in celebrating the unique ability that transforms Homo sapiens into Homo faber!
