auhaus celebrates a big anniversary: 100 years ago, the famed school for art and design moved from Weimar, its place of foundation, to Dessau. Junghans pays tribute with two special watches limited to 1,000 pieces each that do justice to Bauhaus and its anniversary in so many ways: say hello to Form A Bauhaus Edition and Form Quartz Bauhaus Edition.
The new Junghans Form Bauhaus watches result from combining the functional design principles of Bauhaus with modern watch models, and they are impressive with their clean lines adhering to the Bauhaus credo that form must follow function. Junghans has also embraced the theory of colour.
Colour research and colour theory have long traditions: Renaissance man Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), poet Johan Wolfgang von Goethe (1749- 1832), and even many artists and teachers at Bauhaus in Dessau worked intensely with colour. Giving the colors a fitting stage, Junghans’ designers chose restrained hues as the basis for the two anniversary watches. The Form A Bauhaus Edition arrives completely in black, which applies to the strap, case, and dial.
The Form Quartz Bauhaus Edition appears with a fine silver dial in a simple stainless-steel case. The indexes form a classic colour circle, with the three subtractive primary colours evenly spaced and the mixed colours in between. The hands are in a neutral gray and finely lined with luminous material. Scratch-resistant sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating ensure optimum visibility of the special dials.
Driving the black PVD-coated Form A Bauhaus is automatic Caliber J800.2 with a power reserve of at least 38 hours. Powering the Form Quartz Bauhaus is a high-quality Swiss quartz movement. Both movements offer a date window alongside the time display. And both watches are worn on fine-link Milanese bracelets in the same colours as the cases.
On both anniversary watches, Bauhaus is immortalized on the case back – on the Form A printed on the underside of the sapphire crystal, and on the Form Quartz as a fine engraving. With minimalist shapes, purist dials, and precise workmanship, the new Junghans Form Bauhaus models reflect the Bauhaus concept, which combines design and functionality. In this way, the legacy of Bauhaus remains alive today in timeless Form.
