Greubel Forsey Unveils QP Balancier – The Perpetual Calendar Reimagined Without Compromise

Greubel Forsey has rewritten the rules of one of watchmaking’s most revered complications. The new QP Balancier distills centuries of perpetual calendar tradition into its purest, most intuitive form - no pushers, no fragile mechanisms, no reset headaches. Driven by the patented Mechanical Computer and safeguarded by multiple security systems, this 22-piece white gold limited edition unites 12 calendar and time functions in a single crown, while showcasing the brand’s signature 30° inclined balance wheel. Hand-finished to the Atelier’s uncompromising standards, the QP Balancier is not just a technical feat - it is the perpetual calendar perfected for the 21st century.

T

he new QP Balancier by Greubel Forsey is the purest, most intuitive perpetual calendar ever – uniting 12 functions and indications in a single crown, with no additional pushers, no crown positions to memorise, and no risk at any time. Powered by the patented Mechanical Computer and multiple security systems, it adjusts instantly in either direction, restarts instantly after months unwound, and stays programmed until the year 2100. Featuring our 30° inclined balance wheel, it is limited to 22 timepieces in white gold.

For centuries, the perpetual calendar has been revered as one of watchmaking’s most prestigious complications. Yet it often came with compromises: fragile mechanisms, cryptic interfaces, and laborious resets whenever the watch stopped.

Greubel Forsey set out to change that. In 2015, the QP à Équation introduced the Mechanical Computer – our seventh Fundamental Invention – a 25-part mechanical brain that “knows” the Gregorian calendar rules, ensuring perfect synchronisation of every display.

The new QP Balancier distills this breakthrough into its most refined form. It unites 12 indications – hours, minutes, seconds, power reserve, day, date, month, leap year, day/night, 24-hour display, calendar year, and the patented function selector – all operated by a single crown for effortless time and calendar setting. The result is the only perpetual calendar that requires no handbook to operate.

Hidden pushers? Multiple crown positions? Forward-only adjustment? Lengthy resets? Every limitation of traditional perpetual calendars has been eliminated. The QP Balancier turns freely in both directions at any time of day, corrects instantly even after months unwound, and locks safely during the vulnerable midnight changeover, with a visible red zone for extra security. Programmed correctly until February 28, 2100, it needs only a simple Atelier adjustment to remain accurate for another century.

Aesthetically, the QP Balancier embodies purity. Its multi-level gold dial presents day, large date, and month in a single intuitive line, flanked by leap year and day/night indicators. Every element is reduced to the essentials for instant legibility and visual harmony.

The experience goes beyond sight: the quick-correction mode transforms date-setting into a tactile pleasure, each crisp jump through the crown letting the wearer feel the mechanism come alive – a moment of connection between human and machine.

The 45.1 mm white gold case, just 14.75 mm high, houses the 12.6 mm balance wheel inclined at 30°, a high-mass, variable-inertia balance with gold mean-time screws for superior chronometric performance.

Each of its 612 components is hand-finished to the Atelier’s uncompromising standards – bevelled, black-polished, frosted, or straight-grained – with twin fast-rotating barrels delivering a 72-hour chronometric power reserve.

Limited to 22 timepieces in white gold, the QP Balancier is the most practical, reliable, and user-friendly perpetual calendar ever created – without a single compromise in chronometry, craftsmanship, or beauty.
