Fears’ 180th anniversary commemorative watch for British Watchmakers’ Day 2026

January 2026

Fears' 180th anniversary commemorative watch for British Watchmakers' Day 2026

The Fears Watch Company announces the creation of the Brunswick 40 ‘1846 Edition’, produced in sterling silver (925) exclusively for British Watchmakers’ Day 2026. This new shaped Brunswick 40 takes a slimmer design of case and pairs it with a two-part white lacquer dial inspired by the first pocket watch Edwin Fear made in 1846. Limited to 25 pieces, each watch is individually numbered on its solid screw-down case back and is the only Fears model to carry the bespoke 180th anniversary emblem, which commemorates Edwin Fear opening his first workshop in Bristol in 1846.

T

he all-polished Brunswick 40 case is machined from solid hallmarked sterling silver (925) and expertly finished to a mirror shine. The London Assay Office hallmark, features the registered Fears makers mark, the initials of the company’s current managing director: NBS.

This continues a tradition started with the first silver pocket watch made by Edwin Fear. Continuing a modern tradition the winding crown is set with a diamond, which discreetly notifies that the watch is made from solid precious metal. This is the third sterling-silver British Watchmakers’ Day exclusive from Fears, continuing a modern tradition rooted in heritage.

The hand-finished multi-layer dial draws direct inspiration from Edwin Fear’s original 1846 pocket watch. Its dual-layer enamel-style construction offers depth, clarity, and quiet proportion. Roman numerals and a large recessed sub-seconds dial reflect historic design, while thermally blued spade-shaped hands echo the styling of this first pocket watches.

The watch is paired with a Fears Blue pigs’ leather strap made with foldover edges, lined in the customary Fears Blue Alcantara® with tone-on-tone stitching. Pigs leather was the material most frequently used on early Fears wristwatches, particularly silver models of the 1910s and 1920s, creating a direct link to the company’s heritage.

Powering the watch is the new Le Joux-Perret G121M manual-wind movement, offering a 60-hour power reserve. Its architecture positions the seconds mechanism further from the centre to accommodate the enlarged sub-seconds dial. The daily ritual of winding the watch echoes the behaviour of Edwin Fear’s earliest customers, reintroducing a tactile moment of reflection with modern reliability.

Commenting on the launch, Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, (4th) Managing Director of Fears, says: “Marking 180 years of Fears is a rare privilege, and entering our 10th anniversary year since Fears’ revival in 2016 makes it even more special. The Brunswick 40 ‘1846 Edition’ distills the clarity and purpose of Edwin Fear’s earliest work into a watch made for today. Creating it exclusively for British Watchmakers’ Day feels especially fitting, celebrating both our heritage and the vibrancy of British watchmaking in the present day.
