t is graceful and distinctive, delicate and yet robust: the Serenade Luna in “Skyline Blue” is truly multifaceted, consciously embodying modern femininity. The back of its ultra-thin mother-of-pearl dial is coated with several layers of dark-coloured lacquer.
Working in harmony with the material’s natural characteristics, the colour of the dial dances from a light, silvery blue to a dark, dramatic smoky blue – an effect reminiscent of the glazed facades of an urban skyline: viewed from the front, the surface of those buildings looks almost solid blue. Yet, when you lift your gaze towards the upper floors, the blanket of clouds is reflected in the glass panels, producing a whole array of shadows. The new Serenade Luna masterfully captures both the ethereal, fleeting nature of this spectacle and the powerful presence of modern architecture.
The refined look of the dial is finished with diamonds and stainless steel; two materials with a cool and clear sparkle that strike a contrast against the subtle shimmer of the mother-of- pearl. The bezel of the 32.5 mm diameter stainless steel case is studded with 48 brilliant- cut diamonds. These are complemented by the brilliant-cut diamond indexes set by hand against the mother-of-pearl dial, and by the small silver stars meticulously printed onto and around the moon phase display at 6 o’clock.
The entire moon disc is finished in mother-of-pearl just like the dial. To add real depth to the night sky, four circles of blue lacquer are applied to the reverse. The moon emerges where it meets the moon window, dazzling in the natural white of the mother-of-pearl. The edging of the display cutout, together with the sleek hands and the settings of the diamond indexes, are made from solid white gold for a perfectly harmonious effect. The watch is held on the wrist by a stainless steel bracelet with crisp lines that emulate the cool aesthetic of modern architecture.
Behind the facade of the new Serenade Luna lies a true powerhouse. The automatic manufactory calibre 35 with integrated moon phase offers a running time of 60 hours. It features a silicon balance spring that is resistant to temperature fluctuations and magnetic fields and oscillates at a frequency of 4 Hz.
The sapphire crystal case back provides a glimpse of the movement and its elaborate decorations that are hand-finished in the workshops of the German manufactory: the intricate stripe finish on the Glashütte three- quarter plate, the perfectly bevelled edges, the sunburst finish on the reduction wheel, the oscillation weight’s track with an exquisite perlage, the polished and blued screws and the rotor plate in solid gold with delicate shell decoration.
