his year marks three decades since Credor first applied its distinctive engraving technique to the ultra-thin Caliber 68, drawing on Western engraving while conveying the sharp and powerful character seen in traditional Japanese engraving.
In Credor’s special technique, artisans meticulously adjust each tool to the contours of their hands, as well as the specific methods and designs they seek to express, allowing them to create a unique and personalized look. This tailored approach ensures that force is applied only where it is intended. It prevents damage to components in the ultra-thin movement, which is composed of parts as thin as 0.25mm, while allowing every facet of each engraved groove to capture light.
The maneuverability and precision this technique affords come at the cost of stability, requiring an exceptional level of manual control. Combined with the artisans’ fine tactile sensitivity honed through years of training, it enables engraving that is delicate yet powerfully defined without compromising the movement’s integrity.
Today, a new Goldfeather tourbillon creation further explores new dimensions of engraving mastery. It features linear engravings that bring out the uniquely dynamic yet delicate expression of Credor’s engraving techniques across both the dial and the movement. The model embodies Credor’s brand philosophy: “The Creativity of Artisans.”
A meticulous engraving, achieved through a grinding technique, spans the entire dial.* Consisting of fine marks, it results in a smooth, satin-like texture. This intricate texture radiates outward from the center, diffusing light with a feather-like softness and evoking an airy elegance. Achieving a seamless motif across a dial constructed of two separate, layered sections demands extraordinary skill and countless hours of artisanship.
Executed with ultra-fine linear engraving, the Roman numerals are sharply defined, while harmonizing with the dial’s radial pattern. The minute track is composed of nanako engraving, a traditional Japanese engraving technique consisting of a series of finely aligned dots, adding a subtle brilliance to the dial. Each sharp, sparkling dot is individually crafted with a chisel tipped with a small, rounded end.
Viewed from the back, bold linear engravings radiate outward from the tourbillon carriage, embodying the spark of ingenuity that impels Credor’s artisans.
Each line cannot be completed in a single stroke; instead, it requires multiple passes executed with absolute consistency, ensuring the blade angle and depth remain unchanged. This unwavering approach demands exceptional concentration and sustained precision, particularly as the lines must extend seamlessly across four separate components, requiring perfect alignment. Nanako engravings punctuate the radiating lines, adding visual motion to the composition. The arashi pattern – scattered dots individually engraved using a chisel with a hexagon-shaped tip – is arranged with graduated spacing to impart texture.
The tourbillon Caliber 6850 has compact dimensions, measuring 25.6mm in diameter and 3.98mm thick, while delivering a power reserve of 60 hours. Its thinness, combined with the extremely small components within the tourbillon carriage, demands exceptional skill at every stage of assembly, adjustment, and casing. The adjustment of parts such as the hairspring and pallet fork requires a precision of one-hundredth of a millimeter. Adjusting the space between parts also requires a high level of precision.
While housing a tourbillon movement, this creation maintains its slim profile of 8.6mm in a streamlined silhouette. Crafted from Platinum 950, a material that presents challenges for polishing, the case is hand-polished and finished by skilled artisans. Their uncompromising dedication ensures smooth surfaces and comfort on the wrist while refining this watch’s exquisite beauty.
The crocodile leather strap is sourced from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group.* The new Goldfeather tourbillon model will be available as a limited edition of 25 starting in August 2026.
