Racing Time reimagined: Eberhard & Co. Tazio Nuvolari Chronograph

Blending heritage with precision, the renewed Tazio Nuvolari collection introduces a refined 40 mm chronograph distinguished by its Clous de Paris dial and motorsport-inspired details. More than a tribute, it captures the spirit of a legend - where audacity, elegance, and mechanical mastery converge in a timepiece shaped by history yet designed for today.

T

he Tazio Nuvolari collection is renewed with the introduction of a chronograph (ref. 31175) featuring a 40 mm case and a dial embellished with Clous de Paris decoration, a three-dimensional texture of pyramid-shaped reliefs that lends depth and dynamism to the surface.

A legendary figure in motorsport, Tazio Nuvolari (1892–1953), though distant in time, remains a vivid and contemporary presence for Eberhard & Co. Celebrating him, since the collection’s launch in 1992, is not an exercise in nostalgia. For the Maison, Nuvolari is the embodiment of human talent, courage, challenge and self-transcendence. A lover of the impossible, Nuvolari was far from a conventional champion: he combined audacity and determination with masterful control of the vehicles he drove to victory, alongside a magnetic and charismatic personality and a strong sense of style.

The Maison has always celebrated the complete universe of the driver, made up also of symbols, rituals and unforgettable details, such as the yellow sweater he raced in and his lucky talisman, inspired by Gabriele D’Annunzio’s famous gift, a small gold tortoise engraved with the dedication: “To the fastest man, the slowest animal.”

References to the world of vintage motorsport, of which Nuvolari was a leading figure, can be found in various details of the timepiece: the bezel with “perlage” finishing and miles-per-hour scale, the large counters, and the caseback, featuring gold engravings in reference 31175, as well as the sapphire vitré caseback of the Gold Car Collection variant (ref. 31176), revealing a finely finished movement with gold accents and the oscillating weight bears a reproduction in 18 K gold of Tazio Nuvolari on the Alfa Romeo Type C.

“For Eberhard & Co., inspiration always comes from Eberhard & Co. itself: this year’s novelties are the result of a profound exploration of the Maison’s archives, both tangible and intangible. On the one hand, we sought new aesthetic elements that could evoke the founding models of the collections; on the other, we worked in the spirit of coherence, continuity and respect for the identity of these enduring and deeply meaningful collections. It is often said that the future is born from afar: in this case, it is particularly true,” said Barbara Monti, CEO Eberhard & Co.

“In a complex market environment, we chose to focus on two strongly identity-driven novelties, characterised by compact diameters and by the evolution of historic Eberhard & Co. collections: Scafograf, symbol of our bond with the sea since 1959, and Tazio Nuvolari, emblem of the Maison’s unique connection with the world of motorsport, embodied by a legendary, fascinating and unconventional figure,” said Mario Peserico, General Manager Eberhard & Co.
