rom the very first model, the Scafograf 100 of 1959—the Maison’s inaugural diver’s watch— the line has expressed the relationship between watchmaking and the challenges of the ocean depths through a balance of functionality, technical innovation, and style. Over time, it has reinterpreted both design language and technical content in response to the changing use of dive watches, now worn more in everyday life than in actual underwater exploration, while preserving its original vocation.

The Scafograf 200 MCMLIX is born from this continuity, reinterpreting in a contemporary key the distinctive elements of the original model and preserving its vintage charm through proportions, details, and finishes designed for today.

The new compact 39 mm case gives the watch a balanced and versatile wrist presence, while the dial retains the collection’s most recognisable aesthetic codes: triangular hour markers alternating with round ones, and the distinctive hour hand with three triangular tips— originally conceived for optimal underwater legibility and now a hallmark of the Scafograf.

The Scafograf 200 MCMLIX’s strong aesthetic identity is paired with technical features consistent with its purpose as a diving watch. Among its distinctive elements is the automatic helium escape valve, a solution typical of watches suitable for diving and stays in pressurized environments. In such conditions, helium can infiltrate the case: the valve allows it to be released during ascent, preventing excessive internal pressure.

The watch is also equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel with a black or blue ceramic insert, depending on the variant, and a sixty-minute scale for measuring dive times. The zero marker and the first fifteen minutes are treated with luminescent material to ensure immediate legibility even in low-visibility conditions.

Completing its technical features are a screw-down crown, a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and a screw-down case back engraved with the sea star, a historic symbol of the collection and a tribute to the Maison’s connection to the underwater world.

The Scafograf 200 MCMLIX is offered in four versions: a black dial with an argenté minute track featuring circular satin finishing and a black ceramic bezel insert; a black dégradé dial, also paired with a black ceramic bezel insert; a blue dial with an argenté minute track and circular satin finishing and a blue ceramic bezel insert; and a blue dégradé dial, also matched with a blue ceramic bezel insert. Each configuration highlights a dial rich in detailing, such as the polished profiles of the applied indexes and hands, and vintage-inspired luminescence.

The model is available with several bracelet or strap options, including a newly introduced stainless-steel Milanese mesh bracelet, making its debut on the Scafograf line and reviving a vintage aesthetic that has regained strong contemporary relevance. Archival evidence shows the Maison was already offering this type of bracelet before 1914; today, the Milanese mesh is fitted with the exclusive 2CLICK® folding clasp and crafted with particular attention to a dense yet flexible weave, ensuring pattern continuity even in the adjustable links.

The range is completed by the classic Chassis® stainless-steel bracelet with satin and polished finishing, with a sportier character, and a leather strap for a more traditional interpretation.

Over time, the collection has established its identity as a synthesis of technical mastery and experience. Created to challenge the depths, the Scafograf preserves its original spirit while evolving into an ideal companion for any context, both in and out of the water.

This heritage is linked to an early anecdote: it is said that Maurice Eberhard would take his young nephew to the shores of Lake Neuchâtel to test the first Scafograf 100 “in real conditions”, personally immersing it in the water before submitting it to official tests that would certify its performance. A gesture reflecting a direct, hands-on mindset: a relationship in which the human element and an instinctive bond with the instrument have always been the driving force behind exploration and the pursuit of limits.

The Scafograf 200 MCMLIX thus continues a journey spanning nearly seventy years of dialogue between Eberhard & Co. and the challenges of the aquatic world: a legacy that continues today in new forms, as confirmed by the Maison’s participation, for the fifth consecutive year, as Official Timekeeper of the Genoa International Boat Show.
