The robust, scratch-resistant HD12 case, screw-down crown, water resistance to 15 ATM and steel bracelet with tool-free fine adjustment make the watch a reliable everyday companion and ensure a comfortable fit. Good legibility by day and night is ensured by the Super-LumiNova® C3 X2 GL coated numerals, cathedral hands and seconds hand , together with the clear contrast between the dial, numerals and hands.

Hanhart’s HD12 steel achieves an exceptional surface hardness without compromising the corrosion resistance of the stainless steel. The new MAD Preventor HD12 likewise uses this particularly hard-wearing material for its case.

Hanhart combines two high-tech processes in the multi-stage production of its HD12 cases. This provides high scratch resistance while preserving the fine details and different surface finishes of the case. As a result, the new Preventor HD12 com- bines high surface hardness with brushed, matte and polished finishes.

In a first step, a surface-hardening process diffuses large quantities of carbon into the stainless steel. This creates a gradual transition from the hard surface to the softer core. This process offers a significant advantage over a mere coating, as it guards against brittleness. A transparent hard coating (PVD) is then ap-plied to provide additional protection.

With this process, the HD12 steel reaches an impressive surface hardness of up to 1,200 HV (Vickers hardness), making the case many times more resistant to scratches. Conventional 316L steel, by contrast, sits at around 220 HV surface hardness.

Hanhart has received repeated requests for a smaller Preventor HD12 in recent years. With the new 36 mm version, the manufacture is now responding to this demand. The more compact dimensions give the model more classic proportions. At Russell’s suggestion, the 20 mm lug width was retained despite the smaller case diameter. As a result, the proportions remain balanced on the wrist while also offering a wide choice of matching straps. The combination of a 36 mm case and 20 mm lug width gives the Preventor HD12 a compact yet striking appearance.

The steel bracelet of the Preventor HD12 is designed for easy everyday handling. Thanks to quick-release spring bars, it can be changed in seconds without tools. The clasp also features tool-free fine adjustment, allowing the bracelet to be easily ad- justed throughout the day.

Inside the MAD Preventor HD12 beats the Sellita SW200-1, running at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 hertz. The automatic movement features hacking seconds and a power reserve of at least 38 hours. This proven and robust calibre is regulated to meet Hanhart’s requirements for accuracy and quality.
