Back to the roots: Mühle-Glashütte's Marinefliegeruhr - I edition 2026

Three decades of wristwatches! Mühle-Glashütte released its first wristwatches in 1996. A carefully updated version of one of those first three timepieces is now being launched as a limited special edition: the Marinefliegeruhr-I Edition 2026 (Naval Aviation Watch), strictly limited to just 300 pieces.

T

he new limited Mühle special edition, released to mark “Three Decades of Wristwatches,” pays homage to the origins of the company’s wristwatch production, which began in 1996 with an inaugural collection of three watches. In addition to the Marinefliegeruhr-I, the collection at that time also included a ladies’ and a men’s sports diving watch.

The Marinefliegeruhr-I is characterized by its timeless design: just as beautiful and appropriate today as it was 30 years ago. As a result, the new 2026 special edition closely follows the original from the 1990s.

The brushed stainless steel case, with its wide bezel featuring a tachymeter scale, provides an attractive frame for this Mühle watch. With its contemporary case diameter of 40 millimeters, the watch offers solid durability that can easily withstand the occasional bump.

New compared to the original model: The case now features a sapphire crystal case back. Through it, you can admire the reliable SW200-1 automatic movement, Mühle version, in all its beauty. Of course, this movement is also equipped today with the particularly shock-resistant woodpecker neck regulation. This regulation system was developed by Mühle-Glashütte in 2003 and could not yet be incorporated into the earlier Marinefliegeruhr-I, which was produced from 1996 to 1997.

After the careful finishing and assembly of the movement components, the Mühle movement is regulated in six positions. Its rate is adjusted so that it falls between 0 and +8 seconds per day. This regulation standard is based, on the one hand, on the chronometer standard and, on the other hand, is intended to ensure that no wearer of a Mühle watch is ever late because of their watch. The crowning touch of the movement is the exclusive “Three Decades of Wristwatches” special rotor, which is featured in all 300 pieces of the Marinefliegeruhr-I Edition 2026.

While the case and movement feature a few modern updates, the dark blue leather strap with its light-colored contrast stitching, the folding clasp, and the lancet-shaped hands with their greenish-yellow luminescent material are all faithful to the style of the original from 1996. The same applies to the dial, which has been stripped down to the essentials. The familiar luminous numerals not only stand out in sharp contrast against the dark blue background, but the finely structured minute track also features the typical small second markers as well as the dot- and triangle-shaped 5-minute indices. It thus embodies the unforgettable Mühle style of the early years—and is the perfect timepiece for Mühle fans who have always wanted to own a model from the first collection.
