hristopher Ward today introduces the C60 Trident Biscay, an all-new collection that expands the Trident family with a fresh interpretation. Inspired by the elegant skin divers of the 1960s, watches designed to be slimmer, lighter, and more ergonomic for breath-hold divers, Biscay combines period-correct proportions and character with chronometer-certified movements and specialised materials.
Named after the Bay of Biscay – the stretch of Atlantic Ocean between France and Spain, renowned for its powerful currents and rich maritime history – the collection replaces the outgoing C65 Aquitaine. Joining the contemporary C60 Trident Pro and colourful C60 Trident Reef, Biscay brings a more refined, retro character to the Trident family.
“While the Trident Pro and Lumière are for serious divers, and the Reef is all about shallow warm-water fish-spotting, the Biscay is stormy, earthy, rugged, grounded – and gorgeous,” says Christopher Ward CEO and co-founder Mike France. “It’s also a dive watch that performs beautifully at the task most of us use our divers for most of the time – sitting in meetings, but dreaming about the sea.”
The Automatic forms the foundation of the new collection, combining highly legible dial furniture and slender case proportions with subtle detailing.
Available in both 39mm and 42mm case sizes, the watch pairs Christopher Ward’s refined Light-catcher™ case with a slim 11mm profile and a box sapphire crystal.
Each Biscay model also introduces a new bezel design, with a more intricate tooth profile than previous Tridents, adding both character and tactility, maintaining the collection’s purposeful dive DNA.
The dial features minimal text, a granular texture and prominent Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock. Each is individually applied, providing satisfying depth and strong visual orientation.
The numerals are complemented by brushed and polished baton indexes and diamond-cut hands, each filled with a custom-pigmented application of Super-LumiNova® Grade X1 BL. The specially developed lume recreates the warm, aged appearance of the radium-adorned dive watches of the mid-20th century, while delivering the brightness, longevity and safety of modern luminous technology.
Powering the Automatic is the COSC-certified Sellita SW300-1 automatic movement. Visible through the exhibition case back, the movement features a new rotor design and high-end elaboré finishing. Beating at 4Hz and offering up to 56 hours of power reserve, the movement combines chronometer accuracy with a slim architecture that allows the watch to maintain its elegant proportions without compromising performance.
Water resistance remains a reassuring 200 metres, secured by a screw-down crown and screw-down caseback, making the Biscay every bit as capable beneath the surface as it is in everyday wear.
Joining the Automatic is the C60 Trident Biscay GMT. Available in both 39mm and 42mm sizes, the GMT builds upon the collection’s design language while introducing a dedicated fourth hand for tracking an additional time zone, alongside a bi-directional aluminium bezel with a distinctive two-tone colour combination.
As with every Biscay model, the bezel is surface hardened – a process that significantly improves durability. Tested using a micro-Vickers hardness tester, it reaches 250HV – 67% harder than untreated aluminium – helping to preserve the crisp detailing and finish of the bezel over time.
The balanced dial layout replaces the six o’clock Arabic numeral with a framed date aperture, maintaining visual harmony while adding everyday practicality. Like the Automatic, applied markers, polished hands and generous applications of Super-LumiNova® provide the right balance of warmth and legibility.
Inside sits the COSC-certified Sellita SW330-2 automatic movement, delivering up to 56 hours of power reserve alongside dependable ‘caller’ GMT functionality.
Completing the launch is the C60 Trident Biscay Bronze, available exclusively in a 39mm case and introducing an entirely new bronze alloy to Christopher Ward’s offering.
Rather than continuing with industry-standard CuSn6 bronze, Christopher Ward has adopted a marine-grade aluminium bronze alloy (CuAl10Ni5Fe4), containing approximately 10% aluminium, 5% nickel and 4% iron. Widely used in demanding marine engineering applications, the material offers significantly greater resistance to seawater corrosion, wear and erosion while retaining the unique character that has made bronze such a popular watchmaking material.
The result is a watch that develops its own individual patina more gradually and more evenly than traditional bronze, preserving its rich golden appearance for longer while still evolving uniquely with its owner over time.
Visually, the alloy also introduces a subtly different personality. Its brighter, slightly more golden tone reinforces the Biscay’s technical, ocean-going character, pairing beautifully with dedicated bronze dial and bezel combinations.
“Bronze is one of watchmaking’s most characterful materials, but traditional bronze can sometimes age more aggressively than customers expect,” says Bader. “A marine-grade aluminium bronze alloy gives us the best of both worlds. It still develops a unique patina that’s personal to every owner, but it does so more gradually and in a much more controlled way, while offering significantly greater resistance to wear and seawater corrosion.”
Like its steel sibling, the Bronze features a box sapphire crystal, 200 metres of water resistance and the COSC-certified Sellita SW300-1 b automatic movement. Rose gold-plated hands complement the warmth of the case, while the signature Trident counterbalance, present on all models, and refined Light-catcher™ case ensure it remains unmistakably part of the wider Trident family.
The launch of the C60 Trident Biscay also introduces a new variety of straps and bracelets, each developed to complement the collection’s retro-modern philosophy while delivering genuine everyday versatility.
A redesigned Hybrid strap combines the durability and water resistance of rubber with the textured look of Cordura®, creating an option equally at home over a wetsuit or under a cotton cuff. Newly tapered from 20mm or 22mm at the lugs to 16mm at the clasp, the strap offers a noticeably more refined profile and improved wearing comfort compared with previous Christopher Ward Hybrid designs.
For those who prefer a more traditional aesthetic, a new Vintage Oak leather strap reinforces the collection’s mid-century character while retaining quick-release functionality for effortless changes between options and the same 20mm-to-16mm taper.
Steel models are available on either the Bader or Consort bracelet, both now featuring Christopher Ward’s iLink™ tool-free resizing system. First introduced on the new Sealander collection, iLink™ allows owners to add or remove bracelet links without tools by releasing individual links via discreet push-buttons, making precise sizing faster and more convenient than traditional screw or pin systems.
For every Christopher Ward watch sold, the brand donates 2% of the sale to charitable causes.
As part of the Trident family, 2% of all Biscay sales will be donated to the Blue Marine Foundation in support of its ‘30x30’ mission, which aims to place 30% of the world’s oceans under effective protection by 2030. Since 2019, Christopher Ward has raised more than £750,000 for Blue Marine, helping fund vital projects that safeguard marine ecosystems and restore ocean health. Find out more on 2% for GOOD.
