erneron’s approach to watchmaking begins with the movement. In the Mirage collection, asymmetry is not an external shape imposed on the mechanics: it emerges from their layout. A large barrel, direct small seconds and a pocket watch-style balance wheel determine an architecture that breaks free of the circle. The case follows.
The Mirage Miroir takes this philosophy — “shaped from within” — in a new direction. Its Calibre 283, the brand’s fourth movement, introduces a mirrored construction that echoes the original Calibre 233. Rather than skeletonising an existing movement or simply reversing it, Berneron has developed a new calibre whose exposed architecture also provides the visual cues needed to read the time.
A movement that becomes the dial
The mainplate and bridges are arranged across different levels, with dividing lines that help orient the eye. A sector guilloché pattern provides hour markers, taking on a role usually assigned to a conventional dial.
There is no seconds counter. To give the openworked architecture more space, Berneron has left the seconds wheel visible as a running indicator: its rotation confirms that the movement is operating. Another detail distinguishes the display: the hands are mounted in an inverted order, with the hour hand above the minute hand.
Measuring 30 x 28 mm and just 2.83 mm thick, the manually wound Calibre 283 combines a 72-hour power reserve with a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. Its 135 components include 17 jewels, a traditional Swiss lever escapement and a free-sprung balance.
The decoration adds texture to the exposed construction, from guilloché and hand-bevelled edges on the bridges to circular graining, straight graining and laser engraving on individual components.
Gold, inside and out
The Mirage Miroir retains the collection’s deliberately irregular silhouette. Its 38 x 34 mm case measures 7 mm thick, with a lug-to-lug distance of 42 mm. The absence of symmetry is balanced by an emphasis on slender proportions and a coherent relationship between movement and case.
Gold extends beyond the exterior. Berneron specifies 18K gold for the case, hands, buckle, spring bars and calibre construction. A Hesalite crystal with a scratch-resistant coating covers the display, while buyers can choose between a Barenia leather strap and a solid gold bracelet.
Independence on a measured scale
Behind the Mirage Miroir is a company building its future around deliberately limited production. Family- and team-owned, Berneron SA is fully self-funded and independent. Under the banner “Art to wear”, it has prepared a launch programme for the next decade, with one new piece scheduled each year during the first week of September.
The company projects gradual growth to an annual output of 600 watches by 2035, across five collections and approximately 30 references. Production is entirely Swiss, with all suppliers located within a 50-kilometre radius — an organisation intended to support the local economy and reduce its energy footprint.
Its employment model follows a similarly defined framework. The highest salary is capped at three times the lowest, and employees can become shareholders after three years of service, with stakes ranging from 0.2% to 6%.
Continuity is another guiding principle. Individually numbered watches are conceived as part of long-running series, with subsequent generations evolving from their predecessors. The aim is to establish a stable portfolio for both the company and its collectors.
For the Mirage Miroir, Series A deliveries are scheduled to begin in October 2027, at a rate of 36 pieces per colour per year over ten years. Prices, excluding VAT, are CHF 72,500 on a leather strap and CHF 130,250 on an 18K gold bracelet.
