ather than simply reducing the dimensions of the original model, the Neuchâtel-based independent Maison used this new generation as an opportunity to rethink its proportions, movement architecture, chronometric performance and decorative approach.
The result is a 41mm sports chronograph that brings together three fundamental dimensions of Kerbedanz watchmaking: Haute Horlogerie, micromechanical show and métiers d’art.
At its heart beats the automatic KRB14-2 caliber, a 343-component monopusher chronograph distinguished by one of the most visually striking elements of the watch: its regulating organ is brought from the back of the movement directly onto the dial side.
Traditional chronographs are often immediately recognizable by the presence of three counters arranged across the dial.
Kerbedanz deliberately chose another path.
On the Maxspor GR8, only two counters dedicated to the measurement of minutes and seconds remain visually apparent. The space traditionally occupied by a third counter has been given to something considerably more fundamental: the beating heart of the mechanical timepiece itself, the balance and hairspring.
Usually positioned on the movement side and discovered through the caseback, the regulating organ has been brought to the front of the watch through an architecture conceived by Aram Petrosyan, Chief Design Officer and co-founder of Kerbedanz.
But revealing the balance was only the beginning.
To make its presence even more spectacular, the architecture of the regulating organ has been reversed on the dial side, offering an unusually direct perspective on its oscillations.
The balance and hairspring therefore become an integral part of the dial composition, constantly moving and transforming the mechanical regulation of time into a visual experience.
It is not simply an openworked movement. It is the deliberate staging of micromechanics.
The regulating organ is held by a distinctive three-armed star-shaped balance bridge, whose architecture occupies a substantial part of the dial.
Its structural role becomes an opportunity for traditional Haute Horlogerie finishing.
Anglage, sandblasted surfaces and contrasting decorative treatments give the bridge depth and presence, transforming a technical component into a genuine element of design.
The visual composition therefore creates a continuous dialogue between engineering and craftsmanship: the oscillating balance provides movement and life, while the bridge expresses the patience and precision of traditional hand-finishing.
The transition from 46mm to 41mm also gave Kerbedanz the opportunity to further develop the mechanical performance of the Maxspor GR8.
The new automatic KRB14-2 caliber consists of 343 components and 33 jewels, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour / 4 Hz and provides a 48-hour power reserve.
For this new generation, the movement is equipped with a screw-regulated balance wheel, allowing greater precision in the adjustment of the regulating organ and optimizing chronometric performance.
The movement combines hours, minutes and seconds with a monopusher chronograph and 30-minute counter.
By concentrating the start, stop and reset commands into a single pusher, the monopusher architecture preserves the purity of the case while offering a mechanical experience deeply rooted in traditional chronograph construction.
The dial represents another significant evolution from the original 46mm Maxspor GR8.
While the previous generation embraced a highly open-worked aesthetic, the new 41mm version adopts a more sophisticated and restrained expression.
Kerbedanz has developed a complex guilloché dial, bringing the traditional métiers d’art into dialogue with the contemporary architecture of the movement.
The intricate guilloché pattern interacts continuously with light, creating depth and changing reflections while providing a refined backdrop for the exposed regulating organ.
The contrast is deliberate.
The visible and inverted balance expresses energy, precision and mechanical spectacle.
And on the dial, the guilloché decoration celebrates craftsmanship, patience and traditional savoir-faire.
Together, they illustrate a fundamental philosophy of Kerbedanz: technical performance, mechanical emotion and artisanal craftsmanship should not compete with one another but coexist within the same creation.
With its 41mm diameter, the new Maxspor GR8 offers a more compact and versatile interpretation of the collection while preserving its strong architectural character.
The case is primarily crafted from Grade 5 titanium, chosen for its combination of lightness, resistance and comfort.
A double-sided anti-reflective sapphire crystal provides a clear view of the movement and dial, while the case offers water resistance to 50 meters / 5 bar.
The reduction in dimensions therefore does not diminish the character of the Maxspor GR8. Instead, it makes its mechanical personality more accessible to a broader range of wrists and situations.
One of the most distinctive functional characteristics of the MAXSPOR GR8 is its ability to activate the chronograph pusher underwater.
Kerbedanz developed a double-gasket sealing system around the chronograph pusher, allowing it to be actuated underwater while maintaining the integrity of the watch within its specified water-resistance parameters.
It is a technical detail that reflects the philosophy behind the MAXSPOR GR8: this is not a timepiece conceived to remain protected from everyday life, but a mechanical companion designed to accompany its owner through different environments and experiences.
From an urban setting to travel, leisure or aquatic environments, its chronograph remains part of the experience.
